I am helping organize a theatre mask workshop, and our notes use the word oval rather loosely. Some volunteers mean the outline of a person's face, while others mean the shape of the template. It would help to settle the wording before everyone arrives with a different interpretation. I am considering face shape measurements as a starting point for that discussion. A label might help the conversation, but it should not replace checking the actual dimensions. Our draft briefing currently mentions overall length, cheekbone width, and the shape of the jaw. The briefing should make it obvious when we are naming an outline and when we are checking dimensions. We can make paper mockups, so there is no need to settle every detail with a category name. What wording would keep the shape discussion clear for people attending their first workshop?

While sorting family portraits, I started recording the camera setup. Even nearby shots sometimes make one face look longer or wider. I want to compare the visible face outline without treating a photograph as a precise measurement. To keep the shape vocabulary consistent, I noted face shape for the vocabulary rather than a verdict. I would record camera distance separately for each picture. I plan to record the head angle, the crop, and any hair hiding the cheeks. I would begin with similarly framed portraits and only then compare their proportions. I would keep the original files and place these observations in separate notes, so another family member can revisit the comparison. An uncertain outline label should remain provisional, especially when the two pictures differ in pose or when part of the jaw is hidden. What is a practical way to distinguish a visible feature from an uncertain interpretation?

I help run a craft workshop where participants make paper masks, and we are trying to improve the first planning sheet. Starting with a single outline saves time, yet it leaves us guessing about where each person might need a different contour. I am considering a short explanation of face shapes as background for that worksheet. I would keep this separate from actual measurements, because a category cannot tell us whether the paper piece will sit comfortably. Perhaps the worksheet should begin with the widest visible area and the jaw contour, followed by space for individual measurements. We plan to try the undecorated paper pieces first, so changes to the contour can happen before anyone starts painting. The worksheet needs an option for a mixed outline, since forcing a single category would add confusion to the practical task. People can choose a stylized final mask, but I want their starting notes to be clear enough for useful adjustments. Which parts of the face outline would you ask participants to note before they begin adjusting a basic paper template?
